Baking Soda & Eggs

We are playing with baking soda again. The girls had fun seeing what baking soda would do with vinegar (mom, it's a volcano we've done this before), water, orange juice, and grapefruit juice and Coke.
I'm going to have to start buying my baking soda at Costco!
How it works: Bicarbonate Soda reacts with the acid, releasing carbon dioxide which bubbles up through the liquid. The more acidic the more bubbles there are.

She also put eggs into a glass of Coke and a glass of vinegar to see what they would do to their shells.

do you have a book of these ideas or are you just super creative and scientific minded?

I use a book of concoctions for kids, cub scout books, internet and Jes did find some books that looked promising from the library. Sometimes we actually figure out the basic science, sometimes it's just for fun.

Oooooo, I can't wait to hear about the eggshells in the coke!

Jeni - I was disappointed with the eggs in the coke. I was hoping that it would eat the shell like vinegar does - but nope, it just made it a really pretty brown. It's been there a week tomorrow - darn.
